Lonely the Duck

Lonely. Thats his name, as well as his current relationship status. He lives in Tjuntjuntjara, a remote aboriginal community in the midst of the vast West Australian desert, in a fowl run with two chickens. The chickens are companionable Mt Isa reds, but they are chooks nontheless. How Lonely got there is beyond anybody’s guess. He seems happy, except for when we filled the pond with water for him. Then, he just seemed shell shocked. I guess in a desert, even a duck is scandalised at the thought of swimming!
