European Stork migration

White storks (Ciconia ciconia) have begun their annual arrival to the battlefields region of KZN from Europe. All of a sudden, the farmlands around Newcastle are festooned with these tall birds, their colouring stark against the green that everything has adopted these last few weeks. This female was shy, peeping at us from behind the tree,whilst her mate was much more interested in the frogs hiding in the grass. And thankfully, none of these birds have deposited any babies on my doorstep as yet.
